GenAI for Self-Service Access to Internal Technical Knowledge

Objective

Create a company-specific LLM/GenAI that codifies technical knowledge, system architecture, and tool/process documentation, enabling teams to self-serve answers without needing multiple cross-functional meetings. This reduces dependency on tribal knowledge and accelerates development.


Problem Statement

  • Development work often stalls due to missing technical information or unclear ownership (e.g., gift card integration requires understanding schema in front-end and middleware).

  • Relevant documentation exists but is scattered and hard to find; teams revert to meetings to clarify details.

  • Meetings are costly to schedule, can delay work, and scale poorly as teams grow.

  • There’s no comprehensive system-level view available for reference, so knowledge lives mostly in people’s heads.


Proposed Solution

  • Build a GenAI/LLM trained on internal documentation, system schemas, integration guides, and tool/process descriptions.

  • Provide a query interface so teams can ask practical, technical questions like:

    • “What is the expected order schema for gift card in DOMS AWS?”

    • “Where does EDW fit into our system infrastructure?”

  • Include references to source documentation so answers are traceable and verifiable.

  • Optionally, expand over time to cover onboarding, cross-team knowledge sharing, and internal FAQs.
